Liaisons, Memorials, and the Budgie‑Smuggler Ban.

Continuing on from yesterday, I spent most of today working alongside Starfleet personnel on our Orbital Platform. They don’t particularly need my help with the tasks they’re undertaking, but with our teams sharing resources, a liaison presence is essential. It’s been good to work alongside them again, even if I’m mostly ensuring everything runs smoothly between departments.

We received a brief update from the Bajoran Government regarding Vedek Buka and his followers. They have no objections to us holding a memorial service, but for now they’ve asked that we refrain from marking the site with a permanent memorial. The matter is still under discussion.

I can’t say I’m surprised by their stance, and I do understand their reasoning. Still, I’m grateful they’ve approved the memorial service itself. I’ve passed the message on to the Docosie Bajoran Community, who were pleased, though not at all shocked, by the preliminary decision.

The service will likely take place next week, giving the community time to plan and prepare. They intend to invite the Bajoran Archaeological Group to return for the ceremony, should they be willing and able to attend. The site itself has been restored to its pre‑excavation state, with only a simple perimeter fence remaining.

On a lighter note, we’ve booked a spa weekend with James and Jean for the end of the week. Jean has already informed James that under absolutely no circumstances is he allowed to wear something called “budgie smugglers.” After looking up the term, Australian in origin, I find myself deeply appreciative of Jean’s intervention. A respectable pair of swimming shorts will do just fine.
