Beat the Heat (From 200 Miles Up)
I am incredibly grateful to have been stationed on our orbital platform today. I certainly didn't envy anyone down on Docosie, where temperatures spiked well over 32°C (89.6°F). Granted, all of our internal quarters are strictly climate-controlled, but just looking at the weather telemetry was enough to give me a sympathetic sweat.
Summers on Docosie rarely push past 34°C (93.2°F), with the coastal regions and riverbanks offering a reliable, cool reprieve. That is exactly where the crowds inevitably migrate for day trips whenever these heat waves strike.
But from up here, you’d never guess how oppressive the heat is. The view of Docosie from the platform is absolutely glorious today. It hangs there against the infinite, velvety blackness of space, a brilliant, shimmering gem of vibrant blues and lush greens, cradled by a silent sea of stars.
To combat the mere idea of the heat below, I’ve already treated myself to two bowls of ice cream today, each a completely different culinary experience. The first was a comforting, nostalgic blend of banana and custard. The second, a vibrant blueberry, was entirely inspired by Ranih. She sent over a wonderful picture of herself and her class all enjoying a cold treat to beat the swelter down on the surface, and I simply couldn't resist joining in from orbit.
