Balancing Growth with the Needs of Docosie III.
We’ve begun the preliminary phase of assessing whether the colony can be expanded beyond its current boundaries. It’s early days yet, but the discussions are already proving both complex and fascinating. I wasn’t involved in the original feasibility study conducted before the first foundations were laid on the surface of Docosie III, so I’ve been relying heavily on those archival files as a reference point. They’re thorough, but the colony has grown and changed significantly since then, which means much of the work ahead involves interpreting those findings through the lens of our present‑day needs.
There are, of course, a multitude of factors to consider when expanding any settlement, let alone one on a developing world. Even the smallest projects, such as the construction of a single new building, require careful planning. Expanding the colony by an estimated thirty percent around its current perimeter is an undertaking on an entirely different scale. New homes, new infrastructure, new transport links, and the logistical web that ties them all together must be evaluated with precision.
Beyond the practical construction concerns, the environmental impact is a major consideration. The colony cannot simply push outward without accounting for the effects on the planet’s ecosystem. Docosie III’s native flora and fauna have their own delicate balances, and any expansion must respect the habitats of the animals and insect life that depend on the surrounding terrain. Growth is important, but not at the expense of the world we’re trying to build a future on.
At the same time, interest in settling here continues to rise. People from across the Federation are expressing a genuine desire to make Docosie III their home. It’s encouraging, but it also highlights our current limitations. Without expanding, we simply don’t have the capacity to welcome many more new residents. The demand is there; the space is not.
Once I’ve completed the initial assessments and compiled the relevant data, I plan to present the proposals to the Colony Council. Representatives from every sector of the colony will have the opportunity to voice their perspectives, raise concerns, and contribute to shaping the direction of our future growth. Expansion isn’t just a logistical decision, it’s a communal one, and it’s essential that every voice is heard as we consider the next chapter of life on Docosie III.
