A Visit to the Caves of Mak’ala with James
I’ve been feeling the familiar pull of home again—the quiet reminder that the Caves of Mak’ala are more than a sacred site; they’re a conversation between past and present. Dax has returned there many times, but each host hears that call differently. For me, this visit feels overdue.
Ranih would have come with me in a heartbeat, but her current commitments won’t allow her to step away. She insisted I go anyway, and she’s right—some journeys can’t be postponed.
As I planned the trip, I realized I didn’t want to make it alone. James kept coming to mind. His curiosity has a gentleness to it, the kind that would meet the Caves not as a spectacle but as a living memory. I can already picture him taking in the glow of the pools with that quiet focus of his. I think the Keepers would appreciate him. I suspect the symbionts would, too.
So I’ve decided to invite him. Nothing ceremonial—just a simple offer to share a piece of my world. A walk through Mak’ala. A few days in Leran Manev afterward. Warm markets, good food, and the kind of conversations that only happen when you’re far from your usual orbit.
If he says yes, I think it will be a journey worth remembering.
