Goodbye 2472

Image
Well, at the stroke of midnight in approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes or so, we bid 2472 goodbye and welcome 2473.  2472 was the year me and Ranih moved to Docosie III. It's the year we got engaged. It's also the year that the amount of snow was slightly more than last year, according to records as we weren't here then. I think we have both settled in rather well to both our new home and our jobs.  What does 2473 have in store..... > Meeting with Jake Sisko at his book signing next month  > An Audience with the Grand Nagus aka Rom and the lovely Leeta. > A 10 day visit and exploration of the abandoned ancient city of Furrez back on Trill.  > The wedding of myself and Ranih and our subsequent honeymoon to Earth, specifically, Scotland. I'm sure there are plenty more things that will happen next year. Hopefully nothing too unsettling or traumatic, but life does have it's moments and being someone with 9 lifetimes of experiences, I can 100% say that with c...

Ranih Approved

Image
The Smoked Paprika, Cream Cheese and Chicken dish was a resounding success. However, Ranih said I should cook more often. I wonder what I've gotten myself into now.  She wasn't wrong about the dish, fabulous. I wonder if Emony's mother would have been equally impressed.

Look Out lol!

I'm cooking again. This time its a Smoked Paprika, cream cheese, and chicken dish. Looking good so far.  I will let you know if it passes the quality control tests from Ranih, who is clearly the better cook in our home.  Sometimes I think I've come up with a good recipe but then I'm not entirely sure if it was one of my previous hosts or something one of them encountered during their lifetime.  This one is from an old cooking book Emony Dax had in her home. I think it was her mother's originally.

An Audience.

Image
I reached out to the Office of the Grand Nagus and a mere name drop resulted in call from Rom himself.  Suffice to say he was delighted to hear from me, Dax. We spent over an hour reminiscing of old times (Jadzia and Ezri). He has invited myself and Ranih to come visit him and Leeta on Ferenginar. He suggested we come in a couple of months time.  He was definitely older and somewhat wiser than when I last saw him but once he got talking and laughing about the past, the Rom I remembered, shone through.

What Do We Know

Image
Well, I've done a little bit of research and Rom is still the current Grand Nagus of the Ferengi Alliance at the ripe age of 137 with his wife Leeta (never quote a lady's age). From what I have read, he has made a few reforms to Ferengi society and the Rules of Acquisition. I won't go into details here, but suffice to say, they look like they are definitely an improvement with room to grow. I wonder if he has time to see an old friend and if so, it would make me the first Dax ever to visit Ferenginar.

Experimentation

Image
Whilst chatting to Jack, one of my work colleagues, earlier today, he told me about something he likes to dabble in as a hobby. He takes a nondescript vodka, gin, brandy or whiskey, decants it into a demijohn, adds a measured quantity of brown or white sugar (white for vodka and gin and brown for brandy and whiskey), stirs in a fruit or selection of fruit and then seals the demijohn for 6 weeks. Then it is filtered into bottles and enjoyed.  I might have a go at this myself with some fruit and and a spirit from Trill. Should be fun.

Debatable

Image
With the pending visit of my old friend Jake Sisko, it has gotten me thinking a lot about other old friends and acquaintances and whether or not I should reach out.  I'm not entirely sure who is still around. Jake was one of my youngest friends from when I was both Jadzia and Ezri. Then there's Nog, who could still be in Starfleet. The Ferengi do have a long lifespan of up to 300 years, so Quark could well be around and I wonder if Rom is still the Grand Nagus.  I think I will do a little bit of homework.

Lost and Found.

Image
So, in a month's time, Jake Sisko will be visiting Docosie III for a book signing. He will be coming after the snow has all gone and the temperatures have gone back up. Very sensible and highly recommended.  I found my copy of 'Anslem' I was given as a gift by a work colleague before myself and Ranih moved to Docosie. It will be great to have it signed by my old friend, Jake. I think he will be pleased to see me after all this time.  It's made me reflect on my past lives and got me wondering whether it was an error on my part in not keeping in touch. The life of each host should be different and varied but that being said, Curzon, Jadzia and Ezri all had a great friend, Benjamin Sisko. I only lost out because of his destiny with the Prophets.

Well this should be interesting.

Image
In the main centre we have various stores, one of which is a bookstore. I happened to be passing and saw a sign that stopped me in my tracks.  A book signing event with none other than my old friend, Jake Sisko. I haven't seen Jake since a few months after Ezri was promoted to Captain and assigned to the Aventine. He must, what, 117 years old now.  Of course, I will be going to say hello. We have a fair amount of catching up to do.

Okay, Beam me up.

Only an hour into my day in my office on the ground, before I was summoned to our orbital station. It turns out it wasn't actually work related but instead it was something that was about to arrive and they knew I'd want to see it and boy were they correct.  A Federation starship, that was not meant to be visiting us, had to make an unscheduled stop here to allow some passengers who could not continue on the ship to it's next destination which had just been changed.  I don't have more than that, classified. Our hospitality team will cater for our guests but what my colleagues wanted me to see was one of few remaining Sovereign Class starships in service. Jadzia loved the graceful, elegant lines of this class and I agree with her, absolutely gorgeous.

Straight to my head at warp speed.

Image
Having a lovely evening, just me, Ranih, a bottle of red wine and two large glasses. After a long day's work, it's often the perfect ending.  However, this wine, as gorgeous as it is, has gone, at high warp, straight to my head and based on the giggly mood Ranih is in, to her's as well.  Sometimes life can be trying, serious and challenging but we all have to remember, once in a while, to chill and take a step back.

Natural Wine Cooler

Image
We had a really nice Italian dish tonight, Spaghetti Carbonara. To go with it, we opened a bottle of white white from Trill, specifically the Delmah Valley.  Normally the storage room we use for my wine collection is cold enough to chill the wine but for a bit of fun, Ranih suggest we put the bottle just outside the front door for 5 minutes, up to his neck in the snow and what do you know, it did the trick and was perfectly chilled.  The temperature is definitely dropping. At my last check, it was -13°C, but it is 2200 hours. It will still be in the minus tomorrow day time but not, I hope, in double figures.

Snow and more snow.

Image
The snow is really coming down now. Forecast says we have several hours of this deluge. Everyone is grateful for the underground tunnel network.  The temperature has dropped a shockingly cold -6°C. It's forecast to go much lower. I do wonder why, knowing how bad winters are on this continent of Docosie III, the planners went ahead. I'm told this was the best location, despite the adverse weather risks.  I guess we can be thankful that the rest of the year the weather is very good and the winter snow extravaganza only lasts 2 months.

A Gift

Image
Ranih got me a gift today. It's taken me completely by surprise. I asked if there was an occasion I wasn't aware of but no. She simply said, "because I wanted to, and I love you."  I love her so much.  It's a beautiful ring for my right hand. It's made from Tungsten carbide, a super-hard, dense composite material made of tungsten and carbon. I did a bit of research on it, as things like this interest me and more so now I have the memories and scientific curiosity of Jadzia.  Tungsten Carbide is often mixed with a colbalt binder (cemented carbide), creating exceptional wear resistance, high stiffness, heat tolerance, and compressive strength, making it ideal for cutting tools, armor, industrial dies, and jewelry. It's significantly harder and stiffer than steel, second only to diamond in hardness, allowing it to maintain sharp edges and resist abrasion in demanding industrial applications.   It's a beautiful ring.

Notes to Self

Image
When having dinner and drinks with new friends, go easy on the drinks. Although, Jack was equally as bad when it came to the alcohol, as host you really should set a better example. Ranih was no saint either so there probably won't be much of a scolding. I had a lie in this morning, as there is pretty much nothing happening today at all. Makes a refreshing change from the busy week so far.

Dinner With Friends

We are entertaining friends this evening. It really didn't take long for me and Ranih to make friends once we moved here.  Our friends, Jack and Claire, both humans, originally from the Mars Colony, moved to Docosie III only three months before we did. Despite such as short amount of difference in arrival time, it didn't stop them helping us settle in and get use to the facilities etc.  We have since become good friends since then. Our home is a mere 15 minutes walk from theirs. We have had dinner with them at their home a few times and they attended our housewarming party.  Claire works in the Education Department, like Ranih and her husband, Jack is the Chief Engineer of our orbital station. If anything goes wrong, it's a problem for him and his exceptional team. Best get back to entertaining.  - Dax.

Very Cold Indeed

Image
This time of year on Docosie III is extremely cold and it snows pretty badly. Luckily the engineers who built the colony infrastructure had some foresight and so every home and building on the site is connected underground by a heated, well lit tunnel network. It's absolutely fantastic. You can, quite literally, get anywhere in the whole Colony.   It's not snowed badly yet but it has started.

A Thought for Today

Image
"You are confined only by the walls you build yourself" Often our biggest obstacles in life are usually self-imposed limits like fear, doubt, and negative beliefs, not external barriers; it's a call to recognize our power to overcome these internal blocks, step out of our comfort zone, and achieve greater potential by dismantling those mental walls.

A Quiet Evening

Image
Personally, I think the stir-fry turned out rather well and it did get the seal of approval from Ranih.  A new restaurant is opening next week in the Central Complex, it's Klingon. Might wait to see what my work colleagues think of it before we book a table. You would think over 9 lifetimes I might like Gagh but it still remains the one Klingon food I will only eat if it's already served to me and out of politeness to the host of the event.

Chinese Style Stir-fry

I'm going to be creative in our kitchen this evening and attempt to make a Chinese style chicken stir-fry.  I'm not the best at cooking but with the past knowledge and experience of 9 other people, I think I just might be ok.  Of course, it has to pass the quality control of Ranih, who is superb at cooking.  Wish me luck.  - Dax.

what do I do?

Image
Well, mostly I work as part of the team that handles all the administrative affairs of the colony. Imports, exports, new arrivals, visiting starships with their shore leave requests, maintenance and new construction projects, the list goes on. I won't bore you with a comprehensive account.  My time is divided between planet side and our orbital station, with my preference, at the moment anyway, being the latter. You just don't get to enjoy the visiting starships from the planet based offices and seeing different ships, not just from Starfleet, is something I do enjoy.  Ranih and I are planning a trip to Trill in a few months as we have managed to arrange a tour of the ancient ruined city of Furrez. Both of us studied the ruins and it's history when we were at school and we have watch numerous documentaries on it.  The place fascinates us.  Anyway, best get back to work. Dax.

Ranih

Image
Ranih is my beautiful and amazing fiancée. I met her after I started working for the Trill Planetary Administration Service, some 5 months after I was joined with Dax. She's a very accomplished and dedicated school teacher who clearly loves helping the younger generation to learn and grow.  It wasn't long before we were in love. Fate then seemed to offer us an amazing opportunity..... Docosie III. Both of us were given an opportunity to be part of the colony's expanding population. Myself, in administration and Ranih in education. We couldn't possibly say no.  We have a wonderful life here. I have to admit that my life is very different to that of Ezri and Jadzia but that's the whole point.

who am I?

Image
It's me, Dax. I'm Orzal, the 10th host of the Dax Symbiont. I followed on from Ezri in 2462, she was 108. To say that it's an honour to be the current host is an understatement.  I met my fiancée, Ranih, in 2466, just four years later and I proposed to her, as the sun rose over the Fa'hari Mountains on Trill, early this year. Our wedding is next year in the summer. Lots to do plenty to plan and sort. So, we live and work on the colony, our home for the foreseeable future. In my job, I do get a slight perk. Every third week, get to work from our orbital station. From there I enjoy a view of Docosie III and any amazing ships that visit.  Best get back to work - Dax.

Docosie III - New Beginnings

Image
Myself and my fiancée, Ranih have just moved to this new colony to start a new life together. Ranih, who is already an accomplished teacher, will be joining the education department to teach children under the age of 10. I, a well trained and experienced administrator and diplomat, will be joining the main administrative centre for the colony.  Docosie III is on the very edge of Federation space. Quite the distance from our Homeworld of Trill. It might take time to get used to living here but so far, things are going well.  I plan to use this journal to document our lives here as we embark on new beginnings for both of us.
